Launching an unknown mobile VoIP brand

Brief

Vyke Communications is a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service provider enabling users to make telephone calls and send text messages over the internet via mobile phone, computer or fixed landline. Say’s brief was to create an awareness of Vyke as a leading and trustworthy mobile VoIP player in the UK market among target audiences, and help remove the confusion between computer VoIP and mobile VoIP technology.

Solution

The strategy was to deploy an innovative public relations programme that aimed to inform, educate and persuade influencers and decision makers. To do Vyke_corporatethis, Say initially implemented a series of press and analyst tours rolled out over the first twelve months, engaging with all key online and offline media across the mobile consumer and trade press.

Building on this traction, Say approached mobile and trade press with controversial and topical media alerts and opinion articles using Vyke’s Head of Business Development to spearhead the campaign.  Once Vyke were on the radar of the mobile and trade journalists, Say ‘upped the ante’ by sharing mobile commentary with consumer watchdogs, national journalists and mobile bloggers.

Result

Within 18 months Vyke went from zero brand visibility to achieving significant recognition as a major mobile VoIP provider within the mobile and technology space. Vyke’s services are now cited by early adopters and influencer customer segments as being on the same playing field as Tesco’s Talk-Wifi and Skype. More than 900 online and offline press clippings were achieved resulting in an advertising value equivalent of over £870,000.

Client verdict

“At the start Vyke had no public profile. Say Communications has generated significant market traction for Vyke and we are regularly quoted in, contributing to or providing industry insight to a broad cross section of mass media.”  Vyke Communications.
